Your people deserve
better than a
performance review.

Ren helps challenge people throughout the year by helping them have direct but kind conversations.

Private by design. Ren works only in the channels you add it to, never your private messages, and only you see what it suggests.

How it works

Ren does everything up to the conversation. The conversation is yours.

One conversation above is all it takes to see the shape of it. Ren works out what is worth saying, drafts it in your words, and hands it over. You decide whether it goes.

The problem

You can’t be everywhere.

The moments that decide how someone is doing are small, and they land wherever that person happened to be working that day. A peer who quietly covered for them. A meeting where they should have pushed back and didn’t. Work three people praised to each other and never to them. Not because anyone stopped paying attention. Because no one person could have been there.

Small moments, scattered and easy to miss.

  • Slack, #design-review: “honestly Dana carried that whole thing and nobody said so”
  • Google Calendar: 1:1 with Priya moved for the third time
  • Zoom, platform sync, 41:12: Sam: “…yeah, no, it's fine, I'll just take it on.”
  • A note to yourself: tell Sam it's ok to say no
  • Overdue by 2 days: mid-year self-review
  • Email, Re: mid-year: can you send me your self-review by Thursday
  • A message to Sam, still being typed, never sent: “I've been meaning to tell you that”
  • 1:1 notes: Marcus. Last edited 4 months ago

Sam has taken on a fourth thing this month and his best work is slipping. He won’t push back. He wants to be reliable. What he needs isn’t a lighter load, it’s permission to say no.

Ask Ren
One message in a shared channel, and the lightest conversation that will fix it.

Same week, one short list, in order: the person who should hear they did well, the conversation you keep putting off, the habit of your own worth changing. Nothing to fill in. Add Ren to the Slack or Teams channels you choose, and it does the sorting, for your team, and for you.

Private to you: not your manager, not your company, never your direct messages. See how Ren decides →How we handle your data →

The idea

The order is backwards.

For thirty years, developing people was handed to managers as a second job nobody asked for. No training for it, no time for it, no credit for it. So it went last. Not because anyone stopped caring, but because nothing in the week was ever moved to make room for it.

The old way

  1. An annual review sets a theme once a year, for compliance.
  2. A 1:1 discusses it, in whatever rhythm your company runs, mostly about the work.
  3. Real-time feedback comes last. In practice it never comes.

All of it rests on the manager.

How Ren does it

  1. It starts with one sentence on the day you noticed it, good or bad.
  2. What is worth more than a sentence rolls into a 1:1 built from what actually happened.
  3. Patterns roll up into a growth theme, from the ground, not from a form.

The manager is the human in the loop, not the bottleneck.

Same three altitudes. Opposite order. The person with the most at stake in someone’s growth is that person, and Ren gives it to them first.

The method behind Ren

The Accountability Dial: five conversations, lightest first.

It isn’t a discipline ladder. It’s five ways to raise something, so you can start with the lightest one that will work. Honest about the work, generous about the person: salty, but kind.

Show me
01MentionName it early and lightly: within a business day, one sentence, with curiosity. Most situations resolve right here.“Hey, the recap went out without the numbers in it. What happened there?”
02InvitationThe pattern persists. Connect the dots between the instances and invite them to look at what is underneath it, still on their side.“That's the third recap without numbers. Can we sit down with what's making that hard?”
03ConversationShift from what they meant to what it is costing: the team, the work, and them. A real conversation, not a write-up. Still recoverable.“I don't think you meant for it to land this way. Here's what it's costing the team.”
04BoundaryName what needs to change, and by when. Clear, specific and kind. The line is the kindness.“From here, nothing ships without the numbers in it. Starting Monday.”
05LimitThe end of the conversation on this, not the end of the person. A consequence that fits: an assignment held back, trust recalibrated, a role rescoped.“I'm keeping the launch with me this quarter. Let's revisit in six weeks.”
3 of 5 · Conversation

The goal at every stage is the same: they take ownership of their own growth. Not compliance. You hold the mirror; they do the work.

Most conversations end at 01 and never go further.

conversations that nobody was told to have, and that wouldn’t otherwise have happened. Measured per manager.

This work is helping us become more resilient as leaders and as an organization. We’re able to have the conversations that matter, even under stress. It changes everything.

Where to start

Pick your starting point.

I run the company

Grow your people as fast as your company.

You’re 20–200 people and growing. Everyone reports to someone who was promoted because they were great at something else. Add Ren to the Slack channels you choose, and it shows each person, privately, the conversation worth having next. Your people grow with the company without you adding headcount to keep up. Start free, no rollout, no admin.

I run a large organization

You already invested in leadership development.

The program ended, and nothing carried it into the daily work. Ren keeps it going between sessions and helps managers handle everyday people questions themselves, so your HR team has more time for the work only they can do. You see progress in aggregate, never traceable to a person.
